fame and fortune…and failure
Last year, when I was an artist-in-residence at The Mantua Project (Co. Roscommon, Ireland), I entered a song in the Today FM “beat the original” song competition. The competition was to see who could make a cover version of “Teenage Kicks” by the Undertones (if you haven’t hung around in Ireland or the UK you probably don’t know it but it’s an amazing tune) that was better than the original, or really, that was better than the rest of the entries. The prize was 800 Euro and an interview on the radio or something. I got some help from some of my friends out there in the Mantua Project, our plan was to stand out by creating a very memorable rendition of the song. We didn’t win or get played on the radio so I decided to put it on here for posterity.
