BASIC OPERATION
I’m participating in an intriguing exhibition put together by Edel O’Reilly of Catalyst Arts in Belfast, Northern Ireland, called BASIC OPERATION. Essentially, they’ve asked New York-based artists to submit ideas for projects that Belfast-based artists will respond to by making their own versions of the ideas over the next few weeks.
BASIC OPERATION examines ways of collaboration and authorship. Is it the artist who proposes the initial starting point the author, or the one who furthers and embellishes the idea? Or are they merely a filter? In what form can collaboration take place and, furthermore, must a work of art be unique, or can it be created independently by other artists?
Can’t wait to see what comes to lite!
