Homemade Chicken Coop

I built this:

Almost a year ago exactly I was the artist-in-residence at the Mantua Project, located in one of the remotest areas of one of the remotest counties in Ireland. It was about 5 miles to the nearest shop of any kind (which turned out to be about a quarter of the size of an average convenience store in the states). I didn’t have a car or a bike so sometimes it was difficult to get to the shop.

A friend of mine said he was going to build a chicken coop so that we wouldn’t have to go all the way to the shop in the morning to get eggs for breakfast. He never got around to doing it so finally one day I did.

I didn’t have any materials of my own to make it with but we had a lot of fire wood left over from a demolished old house.

I took me about two days to build it.

Two of the greatest days of my life.
